A home for a family of six with a great extent of privacy should be designed. For quite some time the family inhabited a smaller house from the fifties and bought the plot immediately adjacent with the idea to enlarge their spatial use. Because of the bad structural substance of the existing building it should be replaced by a new building. One of the major tasks was to design the building in such matter that the family could remain in the old building during the construction of the new one. After completion of the 1st stage of construction the family moved right next into it, the old house was dismantled and replaced by the 2nd stage of construction.

The new residential house embraces the private garden in L-shape manner in order to make it become the generous centre of the site where all interior rooms are orientated to. The organization in two parts allows for a subdivision of the whole living surface at a later date and to transform the spaces above the garage for example into a separate suite or office. Highly insulating brick work, triple-glazed windows, mechanical ventilation and a small combined heat and power unit (Mini-CHP) leads to a highly energy-efficient building equal to a so-called KfW-Effizienzhaus. A wooden curtain wall dresses the ground floor on the frontside and lends it a special character.
